Pot Racks

by admin on February 1st, 2012 at 11:58 am

I have been shopping for Enclume pot racks lately. I love the Enclume potracks since they are made so well and hold up to major cooking going on in my kitchen. Since I do a lot of cooking I buy a lot of high quality and restaurant pots and pans so they have a lot of weight to them.

The Enclume pot rack is made of high quality metal which is designed to hold the weight of your pots and pans. It is a great way to keep your pans from being just thrown into a cabinet to get scratched and banged up. You also have quick access to them without having to spend time looking for the right one.

I have bought a lot of kitchen tools over the years and if you are going to spend the money you might as well buy the higher quality stuff that will last a lifetime instead of replacing them every few months. When you do you need racks that will hold the extra weight the higher quality cook wear has to it. Check them out and see why I like them myself.

Restoring Your Denver Deck

by Rick Sturms on February 1st, 2012 at 11:04 am

Decks in Denver are exposed to a lot of damage. Wearing and exposure to the weather will cause the deck to lose its luster. To ensure the longest life for your deck take the time to maintain the finish and inspect the boards annually. Every few years plan on cleaning and resealing your deck as coatings do not last forever. The first coat is the most important coat when finishing a deck. The wood must be less than 20% moist. A 12-15% moisture content is ideal. Pressure treated lumber often can look dry, yet still be wet internally. A waiting period of 4 to 6 weeks or one season is required before putting a finish on treated wood. You can tell the wood is ready when it will soak up water easily.

First thoroughly inspect your deck. Make sure there are no imperfections. You can remove any stains that you find with soap or a mild household detergent. If you find mold or mildew then you can simply combine bleach with water and it will get rid of it. If you have a dirty deck then you will want to try to clean it using a pressure washer. You can find a pressure washer at many rental stores. Be sure to read and follow all safety instructions prior to use. Pressure wash the entire deck. Let the deck dry and rewash as necessary. Replace any rotten wood found.

Just like any DIY, make sure that safety is your first priority when you restore the deck. Sanding can create a lot of dust in the air because it involves removing debris. It is important to wear not only your safety glasses or goggles, but also work gloves, a work apron, or clothing that is close fitting and a pre-approved dust/mist respirator. Use sandpaper of 120 grit to sand it and so roughen up the deck’s surface. By removing the top coating of the wood through sanding, the finish better penetrates the wood. Sanding poles help you work more efficiently while making it easier on your body. To remove superficial layers from the surface of an area all-purpose sandpaper is the perfect grit.

You can sweep the deck, and then rinse it with water to prepare for finishing. The cleaner the deck is, the better the finish will penetrate the wood. Give the deck time to dry out. Using a proper brush or roller, apply the stain or finish to the deck surface. Make certain you follow every one of the instructions provided by the manufacturer for safe application. Make sure you are periodically wetting the edge and making sure the finish does not completely dry up. You can apply more coats, as needed. There are clear finishes that will require you to apply many times prior to the first coat drying on the deck. If you have any any end grains that are exposed, apply double coats. Finishing and staining the deck should be done on a dry, overcast day for best results. Extreme sun exposure will dry the finish out even before it has a chance to penetrate the wood.

LED Lights: The Future of Lighting

by Owen Jones on February 1st, 2012 at 9:02 am
Posted In: Futures and Commodities

LED stands for light emitting diode. LED’s are not new, they are the tiny red or green lights on the front of your stereo that tells you that the power is on. Some consoles have quite a few of them to show the state of preparation of the equipment. However, there is a new wave of interest in LED lighting by manufacturers. There is talk of LED’s being the future of lighting. In fact, there always has been these rumours about LED’s, but nothing ever seemed to come of it.

This renewed interest in LED lighting started in 2004 when vehicle manufacturers took another look at using LED lights in car headlamps. In 2008, Lexus produced the first ever car, the Lexus 600, with LED headlamps. These cars were exported all over the world except for North America. However, the 600′s headlamps were or are not true LED headlamps, the main beam is produced by filament bulbs.

The first authentic LED headlamps were fitted to the Audi V10 R8 sports car also in 2008 and the first US automobile was the Cadillac Esplanade Platinum in 2009. However, there is an innate problem with high power LED lights, the rear of the diode produces a lot of heat. In fact, a cluster of high power LED’s produces enough heat to damage itself and melt the headlamp housing.

There are ways around this using heat sinks and cooling fans, but these solutions are not perfect, so technicians and scientists are still looking for ways to solve this problem. On the other hand, the front of the LED lights produces almost no heat at all, so if there is vapour in the headlamp unit and the ambient temperature is below freezing point, then ice crystals will form on the LED’s distorting and dampening the rays of light.

Nevertheless, scientists are confident that these teething problems will be overcome and that LED lights will one day be the most economical type of lights to use. In fact, it is already very economical to use and the LED lights units themselves last a long time. It is just the problem of overheating.

Other than their use in car headlamps, LED lighting units can be seen in flashlights and in other parts of cars. Manufacturers are using LED lights more and more often in brake lights, flashing indicator lights and hazard warning lights, because there is no problem at all with these fairly low powered LED lights.

LED lights used to be either green or red, but now it is available in more colours. White and blue are common. The coloured lights that you see under some cars are another example of LED lighting. They serve the useful purpose of making the car of motorbike more highly visible. All right, that may not be why they were fitted, but nonetheless they increase the vehicles’ visibility.

Many more uses will be found for LED lights over the coming years. You will notice incandescent bulbs and even fluorescent tube lighting being phased out in favour of LED lights as the problems are surmounted, because LED lights is still in its infancy.
