Finding the Time to Write
Posted by: | CommentsFinding time to write. Being a professional writer I write in two different ways. The first way is I write for companies which pay me to write about a given subject. While the monetary awards is a bit quicker they are also a bit limited. In other words I don’t get royalties I just get one check. They give me a subject and a deadline and I give them what they want on time and get my check.
The second way I write is for myself. I write fiction, non-fiction, and I pick the subject. It gives me freedom to write what I want when I want and no deadline to restrict me. The bad thing is I am not given a check when I finish I have to sell the work and then hope for money in the end. I will other get royalties but that may take a while.
Why do I write both ways? One way pays the bills, knowing when and where you are going to get a check is nice when you have bills to pay. The bad thing is you can’t always be yourself in your writing you have to limit it to what they want and expect.
The second way is true freedom and creativity in all its form. I can truly be myself and let my thoughts and creativity flow.
Where do I find the time to write? If you enjoy writing you force yourself to find the time. When I worked in retail it was a means to an end. I knew in the end I would be writing all the time and not have to stock shelves, help stupid retarded customers (you have to work in retail to understand that one), and put up with bosses who’s only desire in life is to make more money and kiss ass.
As I saw other very unhappy people around me in the work place I decided to make and force myself to find time to do what I enjoy most which of course was writing. I write because I love to write and be creative. It is the life I dreamed of having and the life I love having.
What did I lose working full time in retail and forcing myself to write? My social life, friends who weren’t worth keeping in the first place, a not so clean house. I may have given up a lot for a time being but now I’m free from a set work schedule, free from typical work crap of a 9-5 job and I’m free from having coworkers try to run over you in an attempt to go up the ladder.
If you really want something bad enough then you will do what it takes to get there. If you find yourself making excuses then you aren’t ready to give up what you have now to get what you want.
Kitchen Appliances
Posted by: | CommentsShopping for Kitchen Appliances. There I said it, for some people it is like pulling teeth and others that scratch of nails down a chalkboard.
So many places and so many choices it is hard to decide what to buy these days so shopping for them can be such a chore and consume so much time. Refrigerators, dishwashers, dinnerware, flatware, microwave ovens, blenders. and so much more… You can spend weeks just checking out the stores one by one to find the right deal at the right time. A lot of people have started shopping online long before they set foot in a brick and mortar store now. It is one way to compare prices, brands, get reviews, and other information that a high pressure commission salesman is not going to tell you willingly.
I started shopping for a refrigerator lately. When I have time between work I tend to look around at what is out there on the market. I always like the side by sides, on the door water and ice, wish I could find one that has a Margarita dispenser on the door (Ok, I want a lot). I do like the stainless steel ones though.
It is important to shop around and get reviews, compare prices and such. Buying a major appliance is an investment. Pay a bit more to get the one you want and the one you know is going to out last the other models and you make a good investment. Investing isn’t just about the stock market but about what and how you spend the money you make just as it is about how you make the money.

I haven’t been on there yet, but it might be fun when I get bored with work. I’m sure you can see some interesting people there, safely far away. You never know who is behind the chat screen anymore, so being able to see them helps a lot.
Vegas
Posted by: | CommentsYes, it is time for a trip to Vegas soon. I usually go once a year or so to see the new shows they have out there. The Cirque Du Soleil shows are great but you normally have to get tickets four to five months in advance. I saw the Blue Man Group also, but like a lot of shows it tends to be a bit pricey for the length sometimes.
While I normally don’t go to gamble since I can do that here, I do go to shop. You can always find something unique that you can’t find anywhere else. The food is great but like a lot of places you can spend a lot or if you look around you can find great food off the strip a lot cheaper.
I always have to make several trips downtown and off the strip to visit other little hidden places as well.
ABF U-Pack Moving
Posted by: | CommentsI was helping a friend with a one way rental last week. She was moving here from the south end of Texas, I flew down to help her pack and get ready for the long trip. She decided to rent a U-Pack for the one way move. She had three bedrooms and a studio of photography equipment to all pack. Talk about a lot of work. She handled it just the way I told her though so it worked out a lot better than she thought it would.
How did I tell her to do it? I told her to rent the ABF U-Pack and pack for the move herself and then someone else deal with the long drive afterwards, then all we had to do was drive her car here after she packed. How did we get her packed in a day though? She lived near the college, we went and put up a sign on campus offering pizza and hot wings to a group of students willing to load for us. College students will do a lot for free food. Next we know it was done and we had several new friends.

People often think of it as “get rich quick”, you can be sure it isn’t. Passive income? Not hardly, it takes a lot of work “indirectly” to make money online. Setting up websites, keywords, topics, niches, and research. What looks like the really bad part is the fact that you can spend hours or days working on a project and not see any return for months. The entire time you are working literally for free.
So before you quit your day job, spend quite a bit of time working two jobs as you plan for your freedom.
